Labor Day Weekend

Caleb at the helm of the boat. He wanted to drive (we're at the dock).

One really sort of amazing thing happened this weekend. We went aground (briefly) north and west of Townshores. Then while we struggled to get back to the ICW, I noticed a motorboat out towards the bridge on the causeway flying rather large yellow and red flags. They were displaying the flags as if they wanted other boats to see them.
I noticed there were a bunch of boats milling around behind that one little craft, and I told my dad "I think that is some kind of race." Meanwhile we were now in the channel, perpendicular to the normal flow of traffic. We continued across the ICW, and turned to be parrallel again when suddenly 10 or 20 incredibly large and fast motorboats came flying past, the roar of thier engines was incredible. They were going just impossibly fast. They were cigarrett boats, just like Miami Vice. Ok, we live in Florida, but I have never seen anything quite like this. They could not have been going at top speed, but it seemed fast enough. 30 miles an hour, I would guess. They had huge rooster tails and a police escort. It was really quite impressive. This photo does not do it justice. This was one of the trailing boats, not as large and impressive as the others.
